In the United States today we generate in excess of 250 MILLION tons of municipal solid waste annually. The EPA estimates that about 35% of this waste is recovered or recycled, leaving over 160 MILLION tons left to be buried or burned. Much of this material can, and should be, recovered and reused, and Cornerstone's BurCell® System provides a pre-eminent solution. Cornerstone's BurCell® System is a vacuum aided thermal decomposition process which converts pre-sorted MSW and other feedstocks into a consistent, clean, homogenous cellulosic product.

Cornerstone’s unique BurCell® System creates a higher value biomass and will reduce volume, increase recycling rates, and decrease transportation costs associated with Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) and agricultural organic wastes management. By integrating Cornerstone's BurCell® System our customers will be able to process a wider range of inputs, from MSW to corn stover, food waste organics, manure and most other organic waste streams, and increase the overall yields from Anaerobic Digestion, Bio-Chemical, Cellulosic Ethanol, and other liquid fuel production due to Cornerstone's BurCell® System’s ability to deliver a product high in free sugars, and very low in pathogens and non-usable materials.
